Winding roads
Roads curve with the terrain, forming an irregular web that connects small junctions and gives the poster a natural, hand-drawn quality.

Kunnummal Map Poster & Print
Kunnummal lies in Kozhikode district in the Malabar region of northern Kerala, inland from the coast, where the plains begin to rise toward the Western Ghats. Like many places in rural Kerala, it has no sharply defined centre. Homes, schools and shops spread along roads through a landscape of coconut palms, paddy land and low laterite hills.
From above, the roads rarely run straight. They follow ridges and valley edges, splitting and rejoining in an organic network that links small junctions. Streams and channels thread through the lower ground. The settled area thins gradually into plantations rather than ending at a clear edge, a pattern shaped by monsoon rain and uneven ground.
A Kunnummal map poster turns this dispersed pattern into a delicate drawing of branching lines. With no grid to dominate the composition, the eye follows the roads as they curve between the hills. It works well for Keralites living elsewhere in India or abroad who want an accurate picture of their home area.

Dispersed settlement
Houses are spread along the lanes rather than packed into one dense core, a typical Kerala pattern that fills the map with fine detail.
Streams and low ground
Small streams and paddy land run through the valleys between the low hills, adding soft lines that follow the lowest ground.

Many families from Malabar live far from home, in the Gulf, in other Indian cities or further away. A map of Kunnummal gives them the roads they know by heart, drawn at a scale no general map provides.
Edit the title, add a family house name or a date as the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download all six print sizes for $9 or order a printed poster.
