La Louvière is a city in the province of Hainaut in Wallonia, in the old industrial region known as the Centre, between Mons and Charleroi. It is young by Belgian standards, becoming a separate municipality only in 1869, and it grew quickly around coal mines, ironworks and ceramics factories.
