Langepas Map Poster & Print
Langepas was built from the early 1980s to serve the oil fields of the Middle Ob region in Khanty-Mansia. Its plan follows the logic of a Soviet new town. Residential microdistricts are laid out as large blocks, each with its own courtyards and schools, and wide avenues join them together. Past the last buildings, the map turns almost at once into forest, wetland and water.
The name is usually translated from the Khanty language as land of squirrels, a reminder that people hunted and fished here long before drilling began. Langepas also gave LUKoil its first letter, since the company name combines Langepas, Urai and Kogalym. A Langepas map poster records the point where the grid of a young industrial town meets the irregular shapes of the taiga.
Seen from above, the surroundings matter as much as the town itself. Small lakes and old river loops mark the wider Ob floodplain, and service roads and cleared corridors cut long straight lines through the woods toward the well pads.
