Les Ulis is one of the youngest towns in Île-de-France. It was built from the late 1960s on farmland of the Courtabœuf plateau in Essonne, and it became a commune in its own right in 1977, formed from parts of Orsay and Bures-sur-Yvette. The street layout reflects the planning ideas of its era.
