Maison Blanche is one of the four administrative quarters of the 13th arrondissement of Paris and covers its southern part up to the city limits. On a map it is framed by broad boulevards and cut through by the Avenue d'Italie, the old route south out of the city. The Boulevard Périphérique draws its southern edge as a hard, curving line where Paris ends.
Within those borders the pattern is surprisingly varied. Around the Butte-aux-Cailles, a small hill with a village atmosphere, short streets twist and meet at odd angles.
