Manono lies in Tanganyika province, in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. From above, the town appears as a spread of streets across open, gently rolling land, with large disturbed areas nearby that mark decades of mining activity.
The layout combines an older planned core, dating from the colonial period, with more informal neighbourhoods growing around it.
