Maó harbour
A long, narrow natural harbour cuts deep into the eastern end of the island. On paper it looks like a clean channel, with the town running along its southern side.

Menorca Map Poster & Print
Menorca is the second-largest of the Balearic Islands and lies northeast of Mallorca. It is long and fairly flat, stretching east to west, and one main road runs along its spine between the two main towns. Ciutadella sits at the western end, with an old centre around a narrow inlet harbour. Maó, also called Mahón and now the capital, is at the eastern end.
The harbour at Maó is one of the longest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a deep channel reaching several kilometres inland. It is the reason the island was so contested by the British, French and Spanish in the eighteenth century. The coast is broken by many small coves, especially in the south, where short ravines run down to sheltered beaches.
A Menorca map poster shows a coastline you can follow all the way around. The Camí de Cavalls, an old bridle path, circles the whole island and connects coves and headlands. Menorca became a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993, and its interior is scattered with talayotic stone monuments. On the map, the countryside is a patchwork of lanes between walls.

Ciutadella inlet
The former capital sits on a slender inlet at the western tip. Its compact old quarter and small port contrast with the open land around it.
Southern coves
Short ravines break the southern coast into a series of small bays, giving the shoreline its finely serrated outline.

Menorca is quieter than its neighbours, and people who love it often return to the same cove or village year after year. A print of the whole island keeps the shape of those summers in view long after the season ends.
