Mersing lies on the east coast of Johor, in peninsular Malaysia, where the Mersing River meets the South China Sea. From above, the town sits on the banks of the river near its mouth, with a compact centre, the jetty area and roads leading along the coast north and south. The town is best known as the main departure point for ferries to Tioman Island and the other islands of the Seribuat archipelago.
