Mīāndoāb lies in West Azerbaijan Province in north-western Iran, on the low plain south-east of Lake Urmia. Its name means between two waters, which describes its position exactly: it sits between the Zarrineh Rud and the Simineh Rud, two rivers flowing north toward the lake.
