Mulongo is a town in Haut-Lomami province in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It stands on the Lualaba, the long upper course of the Congo River, in a region of wide floodplains, lakes and marshes. Here the river is a working route for fishing and trade, and the town faces it.
From above, the water shapes everything. The Lualaba cuts a broad channel across the frame, with side channels and wetland edges on either bank, and the settlement follows the drier ground beside the river.
