Nāhan sits on a ridge in the Shivalik hills of southern Himachal Pradesh and is the headquarters of Sirmaur district. On a map, its streets follow the contours of the hilltop, looping and zigzagging around a compact centre, while roads descend in long curves toward the plains of Haryana and the valleys below.
