Nashua sits in southern New Hampshire, just north of the Massachusetts border, where the Nashua River flows into the Merrimack. Both rivers shape its map. The Merrimack forms a broad eastern edge, while the smaller Nashua River winds through the city from the west, passing close to downtown before reaching the confluence.
Like many New England towns, Nashua grew around textile mills in the nineteenth century. The Nashua Manufacturing Company built along the river and dug a canal to power its machinery. Today that corridor is Mine Falls Park, a long green strip of water, trails and woodland running through the city.
