Nhamundá stands on the Nhamundá River in the far east of Amazonas state, close to the border with Pará and to the main course of the Amazon. On a map, water dominates everything. The river carries a well-known story. Tradition places Francisco de Orellana's 1542 encounter with a group of warrior women near the Nhamundá.
