Poá is one of the smallest municipalities by area in São Paulo state, in the Alto Tietê area east of the state capital. Almost all of its territory is urbanised. The map is a dense patchwork of residential streets that runs into neighbouring Suzano, Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Itaquaquecetuba with no obvious break.
