The old village
Ponticelli's historic centre forms a compact cluster of small streets. It shows how the district once looked when it was a separate village.

Ponticelli Map Poster & Print
Ponticelli lies on the eastern edge of Naples, on the flat land stretching towards Vesuvius. On the map, it looks like two places side by side: a small historic centre with narrow, irregular streets, and large estates of apartment buildings with wide roads and courtyards around it.
For a long time, Ponticelli was an agricultural village outside the city. It became part of Naples in the 1920s. After the 1980 earthquake, extensive public housing was built here, which changed the scale of the district. Its old core is still recognisable on the map.
A Ponticelli map poster makes these contrasts obvious. The fine grain of the old village sits among large, geometric housing blocks, and main roads and rail lines carve up the surrounding area. The composition is dense, graphic and full of character.

Housing estates
Large residential complexes occupy much of the district. Their regular shapes and courtyards stand out clearly on the map.
Towards Vesuvius
To the east, the land slopes gently towards the volcano. The street pattern opens up as it reaches the neighbouring towns.
