Príncipe is the smaller of the two main islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, in the Gulf of Guinea off Central Africa. It is roughly rectangular, with an indented coastline of bays and headlands. In 1919, astronomers led by Arthur Eddington watched a total solar eclipse from Roça Sundy, and their measurements helped confirm Einstein's general theory of relativity.
