Pryluky lies in Chernihiv Oblast in northern Ukraine, on the Udai River, which winds through the town in wide bends before continuing south. Pryluky has a long history as a regional centre. In the Cossack Hetmanate it was the seat of the Pryluky regiment, one of the administrative and military divisions of the time.
