Putuo is a district in northwestern Shanghai, west of the city centre. Its most distinctive feature from above is Suzhou Creek. The creek twists through the district in a series of tight, repeated bends, and the streets and neighbourhoods fill the curves. Putuo contains one of the longest and most winding stretches of the creek anywhere in the city.
Away from the creek, the district is organised by major roads and the elevated lines of Shanghai's ring roads, which cross it in broad strokes. Residential estates form large, regular blocks between them. Changfeng Park, with its lake, opens a wide green space in the southwest.
