Rehoboth lies in central Namibia, south of Windhoek on the B1 highway, at the edge of the Kalahari. The land is dry and open, and on the map the town appears as a loose network of streets spreading from the highway, with wide blocks and plenty of space between the buildings. The town has a long history as the home of the Baster community, who settled here in the nineteenth century, and a mission station founded earlier in that century gave the place its biblical name.
