Rikaze Map Poster & Print
Rikaze, better known as Shigatse, is the second-largest city in Tibet. It sits at around 3,800 metres on a broad valley floor where the Nyang River flows toward the Yarlung Tsangpo. On the map the city spreads across flat ground bounded by bare mountains. Older lanes gather near the historic core, and wide, straight modern avenues extend across the plain.
The main landmark is Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama, founded in the fifteenth century on the slopes at the western edge of the city.
