A chizu
Rishra lies on the western bank of the Hooghly River in West Bengal's Hooghly district, part of the long chain of towns that follows the river north of Kolkata. From above it is a thin, stretched shape. The river forms a broad curve along its eastern edge, and the main railway line runs roughly parallel a short distance inland.
Between river and rails the street pattern is dense and uneven. Short lanes run down toward the ghats, and long compounds mark where the mills and factories stand. Rishra has a particular place in industrial history: India's first mechanised jute mill opened here in 1855, and the riverfront plots along the bank still show where that industry once was.
A Rishra map poster shows how closely these riverside towns sit together. Serampore lies to one side and Konnagar to the other, with no clear gap between them. On paper the Hooghly becomes the strongest element, a wide pale band against the fine grain of lanes, which makes the town's dependence on the river easy to see at a glance.
The river runs along the whole eastern edge of town. It is the widest open space on the map and the reason the settlement grew here in the first place.
Large, regular plots near the water stand out against the smaller residential blocks. They are the footprint of the jute and engineering works that shaped the town.
The railway line cuts a straight line through the urban fabric, parallel to the river, and forms the town's second spine.

Rishra means something to people who grew up along the Hooghly or have family ties to the mill towns. The poster keeps the river, lanes and railway in one calm image that works in a study as well as a living room.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a family name or an important date. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9, and printed posters with an optional wooden frame are also available.
