Rota occupies a point on the northwestern shore of the Bay of Cádiz, where the Atlantic coast turns into the bay. Its old town is a tight cluster of narrow whitewashed streets near the water, grouped around the Castillo de Luna, a medieval castle that now houses the town hall.
