Sevran lies in Seine-Saint-Denis, less than twenty kilometres northeast of central Paris. The most striking feature on its map is the Canal de l'Ourcq, which cuts across the town in a long, almost perfectly straight line. The canal has carried water toward the capital since the early nineteenth century, and its towpaths now serve walkers and cyclists.
On either side of the canal, the street pattern changes character several times. There are older suburban lanes of small houses, larger housing estates with their own internal geometry, and wide roads linking the RER B stations of Sevran-Livry and Sevran-Beaudottes.
