Shixing is a county of Shaoguan, in the mountainous north of Guangdong province, close to the boundary with Jiangxi. Its main town occupies a valley floor, and from above the built-up area is long and narrow, held in place by green slopes. Streets run parallel to the river and the valley, with shorter cross streets reaching toward the hills on either side.
This part of Guangdong feels far removed from the dense urban grid of the Pearl River Delta.
