Stowbtsy stands on the Neman in the Minsk region, where the river is still young and winding through low, forested country. From above, the town spreads along the water. A fairly regular pattern of streets is broken up by green space and scattered private houses, and the river curves past on one side, giving the map a soft, natural edge.
The town is closely tied to Yakub Kolas, one of the founders of modern Belarusian literature. He was born nearby, and the area appears throughout his writing.
