Susono lies in Shizuoka Prefecture on the south-eastern foot of Mount Fuji, with the Hakone mountains to the east. The whole city sits on a long, gradual slope. Streets and settlements concentrate in the lower valley, and roads climb north-west through fields, golf courses and forest towards the volcano. The Tomei Expressway crosses the lower part of the city.
Much of the map reflects the mountain's influence. There are wide open areas, few cross streets on the upper slopes, and land given over to leisure and research.
