Ţafas lies in the Daraa Governorate of southern Syria, on the Hauran plain, a wide volcanic plateau that has been farmed for thousands of years. The map shows a compact center with an irregular older core, surrounded by newer streets. Around the town, the land is almost entirely agricultural, divided into fields and orchards.
The Hauran is known for its dark basalt soil and stone, which has long been used in local buildings.
