Tarqui is a municipality in the department of Huila, in southern Colombia. Huila holds the upper valley of the Magdalena River, the country's main waterway, and is one of Colombia's leading coffee-growing departments. Tarqui shares that landscape of steep, green slopes, farms and small towns linked by winding mountain roads.
The town centre follows the colonial pattern common in Colombia: a regular grid of square blocks arranged around a central plaza.
