Tomigusuku Map Poster & Print
Tomigusuku lies immediately south of Naha on the main island of Okinawa. From above, the city is a mix of low limestone ridges, winding residential lanes and a western coastline that has been extended with reclaimed land. Roads run along the shore towards the airport area, while the inland streets bend around the hills in patterns shaped more by terrain than by any grid.
The city's hills played a part in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, and the former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters, a tunnel complex dug into a hillside here, is now open to visitors.
