Tsukubamirai Map Poster & Print
Tsukubamirai was created in 2006 when the towns of Ina and Yawara merged. Its name means Tsukuba future and reflects the hopes attached to the new railway that crosses it. On a map, the city is less a single centre than a patchwork of older villages, open farmland and newly planned districts, spread across the flat land of southern Ibaraki.
Rice paddies cover much of the area, and their boundaries form large rectangular grids that are almost as striking as the streets. Rivers wind across the plain.
