Tupi lies in the province of South Cotabato on the island of Mindanao, spread across the gentle lower slopes of Mount Matutum. The national highway linking Koronadal and General Santos passes through the town, and much of the built-up area has grown along it. From above, a compact poblacion gives way quickly to farmland and rural barangays.
The surrounding land is dominated by large pineapple plantations, whose rectangular fields and access roads produce a distinct pattern around the town.
