Vypīn is part of a thin island that runs north from the harbour mouth at Kochi, with the Arabian Sea on one side and the backwaters of Kerala on the other. On a map it looks almost like a ribbon. At its southern tip, Vypīn faces Fort Kochi across the narrow channel that ships use to enter Kochi harbour, and ferries cross back and forth.
