Wągrowiec sits in the north of Greater Poland, in a landscape of glacial lakes and low, farmed plains. On a map the town is defined by water. The Wełna and the Nielba run through it, and Lake Durowskie stretches north from the centre as a long, narrow basin with woodland and paths along its shores.
