Yukon lies in Canadian County, just west of Oklahoma City. Its map is shaped by the survey grid that divides the Great Plains into square-mile sections. Arterial roads run exactly north–south and east–west one mile apart, and neighbourhoods fill the squares between them. The older downtown sits near the rail line, where the streets are shorter and closer together.
Main Street carries the historic path of Route 66 through town, and the railway crosses the grid and marks the original centre.
