From above, Yunyang has a clear centre with fields on every side. The built-up area is small and dense. Its streets cross in a loose grid that thins out into village lanes and farm tracks. Farther out, the fine lines of irrigation channels and field edges take over the map, so the town looks like one solid mark in a large open landscape.
Yunyang lies in southwestern Henan, where the flat floor of the Nanyang Basin starts to rise toward the Funiu Mountains in the north. On a map you can see this in the pattern of lines.
