Al-'Alūaṣ lies in the Al Marqab district of northwestern Libya, on the coastal plain between Tripoli and Khoms. From above, the area looks less like a dense town and more like a spread of settlement. The coastal highway that links Tripoli to the eastern cities runs through this part of the country and forms the strongest line on the map.
