Bezerros lies in the agreste of Pernambuco, the transitional zone between the humid coast and the dry sertão. The town sits in the valley of the Ipojuca River, and from above its streets follow the river and the main highway before climbing onto the surrounding slopes. Beyond the edge, farmland and hills fill the map with irregular field boundaries and winding rural roads.
Bezerros is known across Brazil for its carnival and its papangus, masked figures in colourful costumes who fill the streets during the celebration. The mask-making tradition has become a craft in its own right, and local workshops produce masks all year. Nearby upland areas also attract visitors with cooler air and views over the agreste.
