Bikin Map Poster & Print
Bikin is a town in Khabarovsk Krai in the Russian Far East, near the border with China. It lies on the Bikin River, not far from where the river flows into the Ussuri, and on the line of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Bikin valley upstream is known for its large, largely untouched Ussuri taiga, home to the Amur tiger. The town itself sits in open lowland.
From above, Bikin has a fairly regular street grid alongside the railway. The line cuts a firm straight edge through the composition. Around the town, the river winds through a broad floodplain full of oxbow lakes, side channels and marshes. Beyond them are the forested hills. The built area looks small and ordered within a large, fluid landscape.
A Bikin map poster uses that contrast. On one side are the straight lines of streets and railway. On the other are the looping channels of the river system spreading across the lowland. It is a quiet image of a frontier town between the tracks and the wilderness.

Bikin floodplain
The river loops across the low ground and leaves oxbow lakes and side channels. These form an intricate pattern of curves around the built-up area.
Town grid
Residential streets form a regular block pattern on the level ground. This compact geometric core contrasts sharply with the free-form waterways.
