Bois-Colombes is a compact commune in Hauts-de-Seine, just beyond the Paris ring, and it covers under two square kilometres. It shares its borders with Colombes, Courbevoie, Asnières and La Garenne-Colombes, so the map shows a town without an obvious edge. Its streets run straight into those of its neighbours, and you only see the boundary on the administrative outline.
The commune is almost entirely residential. There are rows of stone apartment buildings, pavilions with small gardens, and short, orderly streets set around a central market area.
