Botshabelo Map Poster & Print
Botshabelo lies in the Free State, east of Bloemfontein and close to Thaba Nchu, on open, rolling grassland. It was established around 1979 as a resettlement township during apartheid, and its map shows that planned origin clearly: a large area divided into sections, each filled with a dense, regular pattern of small residential plots and narrow streets.
The name means place of refuge in Sesotho, and the town grew quickly into one of the largest settlements in the province. Today it forms part of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality. The main road between Bloemfontein and Thaba Nchu passes nearby, and the surrounding landscape is open veld with low hills in the distance.
A Botshabelo map poster is a strong graphic image: tightly repeated blocks, curving boundaries between sections and open space around the edges. In black and white, the pattern reads almost like a textile, while also recording a place with a significant history in South Africa's recent past. It is a portrait of a community as well as a plan.

Dense residential grid
Narrow streets and small, evenly sized plots create a fine, repeating texture across the town, one of the most striking patterns among South African settlements.
Open veld
Around the built-up area, open grassland and low hills stretch toward Thaba Nchu and Bloemfontein, giving the town a sharp, well-defined outline.
