Samalá River
The river runs through the valley and through the town, marking the map with a winding line. Its current once powered the town's textile mill.

Cantel Map Poster & Print
Cantel is a municipality in Quetzaltenango department, set in the highlands of western Guatemala. On a map, the town follows the valley of the Samalá River, with streets arranged along the waterway and climbing up the surrounding slopes. The terrain means the grid is never quite regular, bending where the ground rises.
Cantel is known for its textile mill, one of the oldest in Central America, established in the late nineteenth century beside the Samalá to use its water power. The town has a largely Kʼicheʼ Maya population and lies a short distance from the city of Quetzaltenango, linked to it by road.
A Cantel map poster reflects a town shaped by a river and by work. The Samalá runs through the composition, streets gather beside it, and the hills around frame the valley. It makes a meaningful print for families from Cantel and for anyone who knows the highlands around Quetzaltenango.

Mill beside the river
The historic textile factory stands close to the Samalá. On the map, its larger footprint and nearby streets show where Cantel's industrial history is centred.
Highland slopes
Around the valley, the land rises steeply, and streets bend to follow it. The contours give the map an irregular, organic pattern that differs from lowland grids.
