Near its southern end the island turns sharply west. This curved tip gives Cat Island its fishhook outline and holds some of its most secluded bays.

Cat Island Map Poster & Print
Cat Island runs for roughly 75 kilometres through the central Bahamas. It is rarely more than a few kilometres wide, and at its southern end it bends into a shape often compared to a fishhook. The Atlantic side faces open ocean and is lined with long beaches, while the western shore looks over the calmer waters of Exuma Sound. On a map the proportions alone make it unmistakable.
The island holds the highest point in the Bahamas, Mount Alvernia, a modest hill of around 63 metres. On its summit stands the Hermitage, a small stone retreat built by hand by Father Jerome, an architect turned priest who spent his last years there. Cat Island is also where the actor Sidney Poitier spent his early childhood.
Settlements are spread in a thin line along the Queen's Highway, which follows the west coast from Arthur's Town in the north toward the southern hook. A Cat Island map poster in a tall format fits the whole length comfortably. The single road runs down the island like a spine, with the Atlantic beaches on one side and the sheltered coast on the other.

Mount Alvernia
A low hill near New Bight, crowned by Father Jerome's stone Hermitage, is the highest ground in the Bahamas and the only real high point on the map.
Queen's Highway
The main road runs almost the full length of the island, linking one small settlement after another. It is the single thread that holds the long, narrow shape together.

ඇයි Cat Island
අර්ථයක් ඇති සිතියමක්
Cat Island is a quieter Bahamas, loved by returning families, divers, visitors to the Hermitage and people drawn by its connection to Sidney Poitier. Its long, curved outline looks elegant on a wall and works especially well in a tall frame, where the island's length becomes the whole composition.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a settlement, a family name or the year you came home, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files in six sizes are $9, and a free watermarked preview lets you check the layout first.
