Catania Map Poster & Print
Catania lies on the eastern coast of Sicily, between the Ionian Sea and the slopes of Mount Etna. After the earthquake of 1693, the city was rebuilt on a new plan with wide, straight streets, and that order is still clear on the map. Via Etnea, the main axis, runs north from the cathedral square directly toward the volcano.
The historic centre, built largely in dark lava stone, is part of the UNESCO-listed Late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. At its heart, Piazza del Duomo holds the elephant fountain, the city's symbol. Lava from the 1669 eruption reached the sea near Castello Ursino, pushing the coastline outward. The composer Vincenzo Bellini was born here.
A Catania map poster sets the regular Baroque grid against the port, the curving coast and the suburbs climbing the slopes. To the south, the flat plain and long beaches stretch away, while to the north the city blends into Etna's foothills. In black and white, the straight axes and irregular shoreline create a strong, balanced composition.

Port and coast
The harbour's breakwaters and basins sit just below the historic centre, and the rocky lava coastline to the north contrasts with sandy shores to the south.
Post-1693 grid
Rebuilt after the great earthquake, the centre is laid out with wide, intersecting streets and open squares, a clarity that prints especially well.

ඇයි Catania
අර්ථයක් ඇති සිතියමක්
Catania is a city of strong character, and its map carries some of that intensity: the geometry of the Baroque plan, the edge of the sea, the volcano's presence to the north. It suits Sicilians abroad and anyone who has spent time there.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and pick one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Paper, Blueprint and Sand; Noir suits a city of dark lava stone particularly well. Buy the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster with an optional frame.
