Hieu River bend
The river swings through the town before reaching the sea, splitting the map into two uneven halves and setting a soft, curving line against the straighter road grid.

Ðông Hà Map Poster & Print
Seen from above, Ðông Hà is organised by its crossings. The Hieu River bends through the town on its way to the coast, and National Route 1, the spine of Vietnam, crosses it on a bridge before continuing north. Close to the river the older blocks are tighter and less regular. Farther out the streets open into longer, straighter lines, with rice fields and gardens pressing in at the edges.
The town's position explains much of its shape. Route 9 leaves here and heads west through the hills to the Lao border, so Ðông Hà was a junction long before it became the capital of Quang Tri province. The area lies just south of the former demilitarised zone. The town saw heavy fighting in 1972, and much of what stands today was built afterwards, which is why so much of its grid reads as recent.
A Ðông Hà map poster keeps the essentials: the curve of the river, the long straight of the highway, Route 9 peeling away to the west, and the finer street pattern that fills the spaces between them. In black and white the water becomes a quiet band of empty space, and the roads read as the lines of movement that have always defined this place.

Route 1 crossing
Vietnam's main north–south highway crosses the river here. It is a single strong line running the full height of the map, tying the town to the rest of the country.
Road to Laos
Route 9 branches west from Ðông Hà toward the Lao border. On the poster it shows as a long line leaving the dense centre for open, hilly country.

For people from Quang Tri, or anyone who has travelled Route 9 or the central coast, this map records a crossroads with a long memory. It suits a study or hallway where a clear, uncluttered image works better than a photograph.
You can set your own title, add a subtitle such as a date or family name, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the $9 HD files or order a printed poster.
