Sheltered bays
The irregular coastline of Strelok Bay and the waters around it cut deep inlets into the land, the most distinctive element of the map.

Fokino is a small town in Primorsky Krai in Russia's Far East, southeast of Vladivostok. It is a closed administrative territory, long associated with the Pacific Fleet, and until the 1990s it was known by a coded name. Access for outsiders has traditionally been restricted, which makes accurate maps of the place especially interesting.
The town sits among hills near the shores of Strelok Bay, part of the complex coastline of Peter the Great Gulf. On a map, streets of mid-rise apartment blocks fill the low ground, while wooded slopes rise around them. The coast beyond is broken into bays, peninsulas and islands, forming an intricate pattern of land and water.
A Fokino map poster records a town defined by its setting: sheltered bays suited to ships, and hills that limit where housing could be built. For people who served or grew up here, it shows a place that rarely appears in public, set against one of the most indented coastlines in the region.

Housing blocks
Soviet-era apartment blocks fill the flat ground between the hills, creating compact clusters of rectangles in the centre of the drawing.
Wooded hills
Forested slopes surround the town and push down towards the shore, leaving the built-up area in a narrow band between them.
