Terraced rows

Gorseinon Map Poster & Print
Gorseinon grew up in the nineteenth century on the western side of Swansea, as part of the coal and tinplate economy that shaped much of south Wales. It sits close to the River Loughor, which widens into the estuary separating the Gower peninsula from Carmarthenshire. The town's development followed industry and rail, along with the terraced housing that came with them.
From above, Gorseinon shows the typical pattern of an industrial south Wales town: long terraced streets in parallel rows, a main shopping street at the centre, and newer estates filling the land around them. Green fields and marsh edge toward the estuary to the west, while the M4 passes to the north, linking the town with Swansea and Llanelli.
A Gorseinon map poster records these layers of growth in a single black-and-white drawing. The dense rows of terraces, the main roads and the open ground near the water all remain legible. The result is a quiet portrait of a community with deep roots in the coal and tinplate trades of south Wales.

Loughor estuary
To the west the land opens toward the River Loughor, where the tidal estuary and marshland contrast with the dense housing inland.
M4 corridor
The motorway curves across the northern edge of the area, a strong, smooth line that frames the town and connects it to Swansea and west Wales.
