Gukovo Map Poster & Print
Gukovo is a town in Rostov oblast in southern Russia, on the eastern side of the Donets coal basin and directly on the border with Ukraine. It grew up around coal mines, and its layout reflects that origin: rather than one compact centre, the town is made up of several settlements that formed around individual pits and were later joined together.
On a map, the town stretches across the open steppe as clusters of streets connected by longer roads and railway lines. Conical spoil heaps, the characteristic landmarks of mining towns in the region, rise beside the old pit sites. Many of the mines have since closed, but the pattern they created still defines the town's shape.
A Gukovo map poster shows this dispersed, industrial geography with clarity. The separate neighbourhoods, the rail lines that once served the pits and the open land in between form an unusual composition, far from the neat grid of a planned city. It is a map with a working history written into its lines.

Spoil heaps
Cone-shaped heaps of mining waste stand beside the old pit sites, familiar landmarks of the Donbas and a reminder of how each district took shape.
Railway lines
Rail lines that once carried coal from the mines run across the town, adding long, straight strokes that link the scattered districts together.
