The Hooghly bank
The river forms the western edge of the town and dominates the poster. It is a wide empty band that gives the dense riverside streets a clear, strong border.

Hālīsahar Map Poster & Print
Hālīsahar lies on the east bank of the Hooghly in North 24 Parganas, and the river defines its map. The town stretches along the water in a thin band, and the suburban railway runs roughly parallel a little way inland. Between the two, lanes run down toward the bank at short intervals. The result is a ladder-like pattern typical of the old riverside settlements on this stretch of Bengal.
The town is known as the birthplace of Ramprasad Sen, the eighteenth-century poet whose devotional songs to the goddess Kali are still sung across Bengal. Like its neighbours, it later became part of the industrial belt that grew up along the Hooghly. The map still shows how closely the town follows the water instead of spreading far inland.
On a Hālīsahar map poster the river becomes a broad pale band running the full height of the frame. The town is drawn as a fine strip of streets along one bank, with the opposite shore visible across the water. A single natural line shapes the whole composition, which gives the poster a strong, simple structure.

Railway spine
The suburban line runs north to south behind the riverside. This straight thread marks the inland edge of the older town and connects it to Kolkata.
Lanes to the water
Short streets run from the main roads down to the river at regular intervals. The ladder pattern shows how the town has always faced the water.
