Fortress ramparts
Angled bastions and moats still outline the historic town, giving the centre a sharp, star-like shape that reads clearly even at small print sizes.

Hellevoetsluis Map Poster & Print
Hellevoetsluis sits on the southern shore of Voorne-Putten, where the island meets the broad water of the Haringvliet. From above, the old centre is easy to find: a compact fortress town with angled bastions and moats wrapped around a narrow harbour basin that runs inland from the estuary. Newer residential districts spread out behind it in the orderly way typical of Dutch planning.
For centuries the town was a base for the Dutch navy, and that past is still written into the plan. The harbour, the fortifications and the historic dry dock designed by Jan Blanken sit close together, forming a small, dense core of quays and water. Beyond the ramparts the pattern changes to curving suburban streets, sports fields and green buffers that lead out towards the polders.
A Hellevoetsluis map poster shows this contrast well. The geometry of the fortress, drawn in thin black lines, sits between the wide empty surface of the Haringvliet and the finer grain of later neighbourhoods. The shoreline, the harbour mouth and the dikes give the composition a strong edge, while the inland streets fill the rest of the sheet with quiet texture.

Naval harbour basin
A narrow basin cuts from the Haringvliet into the old town, lined by quays. It once served the Dutch fleet and remains the visual axis of the map.
Haringvliet shoreline
The broad estuary forms the southern edge of the town, a large open surface that balances the dense street pattern and frames the harbour entrance.

People hang this map because the town's story is legible in its outline: water, walls and harbour in one frame. It suits those who grew up on Voorne-Putten, sailors who know the Haringvliet, or anyone drawn to the geometry of old fortifications.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a mooring date or a family address, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint in particular suits the town's naval engineering heritage.
