Huntersville lies just north of Charlotte, and from above it reads as a classic piece of the modern American South: loops, crescents and cul-de-sacs branching off a few main roads. Interstate 77 runs through the town like a spine, and the curve of the I-485 beltway touches its southern edge, tying it back to the city.

The long, branching coves of Lake Norman reach down from the north, and Mountain Island Lake, a narrow stretch of the Catawba River, bends along the southwest.
